MELISSA FASTEAU, Psy.D
Clinical Psychologist
I am a clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping others, enjoys understanding the inner workings of our minds, and applying this information to help people live a life they love.
I am a specialist in treating OCD and related disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and body-focused repetitive behaviors. I have expertise in providing evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and habit reversal therapy (HRT). Prior to joining The Conative Group, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship and was a clinical psychologist as the McLean OCD Institute in Houston, formerly the Houston OCD Program for 4 years. I treated OCD and anxiety disorders in the residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels of care.
I am passionate about continuing my education and am always seeking opportunities to learn evidence-based treatment. I earned an advanced certification for treating OCD and related disorders through the Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI), hosted by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) in 2017. While at the McLean OCD Institute in Houston, I became a certified therapist for the Bergen 4-Day Format, an intensive OCD treatment delivered in both a group and individual format over the course of 4 days.
My clinical training was primarily in New York City at Yeshiva University, until I moved to Houston for my internship year. In New York, my clinical work emphasized assessment and evaluation of mental health disorders, CBT, and psychodynamic therapies. I worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, including the Fisher Landau Center for the Treatment of Learning Disabilities, William Paterson University Counseling Center, Bronx Psychiatric Center (both inpatient and outpatient locations), and the Parnes Clinic.
For my predoctoral internship, I matched at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX. My clinical training focused on rotations in substance abuse at Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addiction, assessment and treatment for those with severe and persistent mental illness at Harris County Psychiatric Center, and developmental assessments for children.
In addition to my clinical work, I am passionate about advocating for the OCD community. I am the Secretary of OCD Texas, which is an affiliate member of the IOCDF. I organize local events in Texas, including the 1 Million Steps for OCD Walk and annual OCD Texas Conference.
I look forward to meeting you, having the opportunity to help you improve your quality of life, and being a part of your journey to become the most fulfilled version of yourself.
