Sometimes our lives can so fast-paced that we don’t give ourselves the time to think about our lives.

And sometimes we don’t give time to self-reflect about our lives because we fill it with other attention-grabbing things! Self-reflection is a powerful tool for learning about yourself, understanding what is valuable to you, diagnosing problems, and for keeping yourself accountable for your goals! Where do you find the time to self-reflect about your life?
Let’s do a reflection activity together, where we simply look back at 2025 and ask a few questions. We might be tempted to avoid thinking about our lives because it brings us stress or anxiety, but I’d like to invite you to look back at 2025 with the perspective that we will learn from these experiences.
What am I proud of this year?
What was your biggest win?
Celebrate your successes big or small.
Acknowledge your progress.
What did I learn about myself?
Was it about your strengths?
Did you learn about something you value?
What was my biggest challenge, and what did I learn from it?
What activities drained you?
What brought me the most fulfillment or joy?
What gave you passion?
What were you interested in?
Now that you’ve reviewed your 2025, this is a great time to start thinking about your goals for 2026!
What will your New Year’s resolution be?
Tips for a New Year’s resolution
i. Be specific.
For example, “I want to exercise more,” is too vague, instead, try something like, “I will go to the gym for 30 minutes 3x a week.” This statement leaves less room for interpretation, so that you know exactly what you need to do with your goal, instead of wondering what exactly “exercising more,” means.
Make it achievable and sustainable
Be realistic with yourself. Look at your own history and get a sense of what worked and what didn’t work in the past. If you’ve tried making going to the gym a habit in the past, what were the challenges that got in the way? What can you do differently this time?
Starting out small makes your goals more sustainable and less overwhelming. Acknowledge your progress even if it’s small.
iii. Find your why?
Connect the New Year’s resolution with deeper values to stay motivated.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season! I wish you all the best on your life journey and I hope you found this activity helpful.
